Tom Marquand suffered a concussion after a nasty fall at Randwick on Saturday.
He was riding Dorothy Gail in the two-year-old feature race, the Inglis Millennium.
## What happened?
Marquand came off his mount at around the 300m mark and was transported to St Vincent’s Hospital.
He was cleared of any damage to his shoulder but remained in hospital overnight due to the concussion.
## Why it matters for Tom Marquand
The incident occurred when Josh Parr shifted from his line, causing his horse, Hellish, to make contact with Dorothy Gail.
Parr pleaded guilty to a careless riding charge and was handed a 20-meeting suspension, eligible to return on March 15.
Annabel Neasham, trainer of Dorothy Gail, reported the horse had “pulled up OK after her fall”.
## What comes next?
Marquand shared an update on Instagram saying he was “pretty sore and banged up” on Sunday.
An inquiry was opened by stewards after the race, involving jockeys Josh Parr, Jason Collett, Tim Clark, and James McDonald.
There was another incident at Doomben when Lani Allen and Michael Cahill both came off their horses during a scary moment in Race 2.
Cahill fractured his shoulder blades and broke his tibia, while Allen fractured her shinbone, as reported on February 26.
Both Vivenzo and Endless Mystery, the horses involved, have been vetted and are said to have pulled up OK.
Marquand's health update is a relief to fans, and his return to racing will be eagerly anticipated.
The suspension of Josh Parr serves as a reminder of the importance of careful riding in horse racing.
